PM orders cancellation of UPSC lateral entry ad, emphasises need for reservation
The decision reflects the prime minister’s belief that the lateral entry process must align with the principles of equity and social justice enshrined in the Constitution, particularly regarding reservation, union minister Jitendra Singh wrote in a letter to UPSC chairperson Preeti Sudan.

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday restrained the city civic body from terminating the services of a doctor, appointed as a teacher on contract at a corporation-run hospital, for taking maternity leave beyond what was permitted to her.

A single judge bench of the Madras High Court comprising of Justice R.N. Manjula while deciding a writ petition in the case of M. Anantha Babu v. The Supreme Court has used its extraordinary constitutional power to do complete justice for a 50-year-old man who fought for nearly three decades against the postal department’s refusal to give him a job despite his name figuring high on the merit list.
Ankur Gupta had everything going right in his endeavour to become postal assistant in 1995 until the department grounded his hopes. He had even completed a 15-day induction training when the department dropped his name on the ground that he had completed his Class 12 in the vocational stream. The department said the rules had been amended to consider only candidates from the regular stream.

On immunity to senior govt officers, Supreme Court says 2014 ruling retrospective
In a unanimous verdict, a five-judge constitution bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul ruled that the apex court’s May 6, 2014 verdict, which had struck down section 6-A (1) of the DSPE Act, 1946, providing immunity to such officers in graft cases, will have retrospective effect.

MADURAI: Madras HC has said that it is high time policy makers brought a legislation for mandatory paternity leave to biological and and adoptive fathers in all states as well as the private sector. The HC made the observations last week while quashing a desertion order issued against a police inspector, B Sarvanan, who had sought extension of leave to take care of his wife during childbirth.

SC says will frame SOPs to curb irrational summonses to babus

NEW DELHI: While saying that it will frame standard guidelines to curb irrational summons to bureaucrats seeking their personal presence before constitutional courts and dissuade judges from deriding officers who appear in courts without wearing jackets (blazers), the Supreme Court on Monday refused to accept parts of the draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) submitted by the government saying they appeared to be like an advisory to the courts on how “judicial review should be exercised”.
