Homebuyers can now seek a full refund from builders with 10% interest if the possession of their flats is delayed beyond one year, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has ruled.
The Commission has passed this order in the wake of incessant delays the homebuyers have to face to take the possession of their flats. The Supreme Court and various consumer courts have in the past held that the end buyers can’t be made to wait endlessly to take the ownership of their flats, but did not give clarity on the timeline of the refund. …

BENGALURU: State Bank of India (SBI) had to compensate damages for deficiency in service in the payment of insurance premium of a vehicle. Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission president Justice B S Indrakala ordered the manager, State Bank of India, Kumta branch in Uttara Kannada district, to pay RS 3.71 lakh in compensation, along with interest at the rate of 6 per cent per annum from 2009, plus Rs 5,000 litigation cost, to Mahesh Pursu Harikantra, a resident of Kimani in Kumta.

In a significant decision, the Nagpur District Consumer Forum has asked State Bank of India (SBI) to pay compensation to a customer for sending loan recovery notice for a loan that was already repaid.
“This decision will have long lasting impact on banks for sending recovery notices even after loan was paid and paying no heed to requests of the consumers.
